The Seattle Post-Intelligencer is within 60 days of shutting down. If no one buys the newspaper -- and in America's current economic climate, who would? -- it'll either become a web-only publication or be gone for good. Whitworth's favorite alt-weekly, The Stranger, also based in Seattle, blogs about the announcement party.

Something I would very much love to see the Prairie Dog write about is the Journalism School scam. Churning out the thousands of j-school grads this country does every year, through its university and two-year college programs, is kind of a disgrace. Why is it allowed to continue?
Sure, people should be allowed to get that education if they want to, but shouldn't the government have a responsibility to step in and enact a moratorium? The free market has certainly spoken on the future of journalism careers.
The government ended commercial cod fishing; it no longer funds education programs that teach people how to fix typewriters. Why is journalism any different?
I'll write it for you, if you want.
